A love of running, a passion for social media and a desire to help people led Ryan Knapp to create the 2,011 miles in 2011 campaign (@2011in2011). Ryan intends to raise $2,011 for Comfort Zone Camp, which is the nation’s largest bereavement camp which transforms the lives of children who have experienced the death of a family member or close friend.

Why Comfort Zone Camp?

This is a cause close to Ryan’s heart. Ryan has experienced the grief, sadness and loneliness that comes from losing a parent after he lost his own father as a teenager. He said that he was grateful for the support of friends and relatives, and wanted to help other kids learn to cope and manage such a tragic loss.

“I wish I was the only child to have ever went through this, but sadly I’m part of an estimated 1 out of every 9 children who will lose a parent before turning 20,” Ryan said.

How The 2011 in 2011 Campaign Will Work:

For every dollar a person donates, Ryan will run a mile. His goal is to run 2,011 miles to raise $2,011 dollars for Comfort Zone Camp. That equates to about 5.5 miles of running every day.

So far, Ryan has raised more than $400 for Comfort Zone Camp. Ryan posts weekly updates on his blog, Twitter account and on his Youtube channel.

For every $500 raised, one kid will get to go to camp. The camps are year-round, and are for kids between the age of 7-17 in Massachusetts, Virginia, New Jersey and California.
